Gold Medal 10" Carbide Tipped 40T

This is a top-o-the-line blade. I originally bought 4 of them 9 years ago (2 10" and 2 12") for my table saws. Over the years each has now been resharpened 20-30 times. They still run true, are quiet and the carbide tips probably have a similar number of sharpenings left in them. Saw plate run-out less than .002 for flat true run. Carbide tip material is an extra hard, C-4 and super fine grain with corrosion inhibitors. Resin bond-filled expansion slots to absorb any vibration and reduce cutting noise. Fully-hardened, expertly-tensioned tool steel body for true and accurate cuts. For the serious craftsman who also wants longevity. (Parker Converse)

I have been using Tenryu blades for the last eight to ten years. Before I discovered Tenryu I used a Forrest Woodworker II for five or six years. In comparing the two blades, out of the box they both cut pretty much the same. However, the Tenryu is magical in that the force to feed wood into the blade is virtually zero!

After a couple months use, the difference really shows. I cut an enormous amount of 8/4 lumber in making rocking chairs and most of it is un-planed when I run it through my table saw. Thus it twists this way and that as I am feeding it through the blade resulting in a good bit more abuse to the blade than normal. The Tenryu seems oblivious to such abuse. I have used a single Tenryu Gold Medal on my saw for a continuous six months of heavy use without a single sharpening! A Forrest would have required two or three sharpenings in the same period. If you are making money making things out of wood, think about it - you are not making money when you are changing blades!

Also, in the time I have been using and abusing my Tenryu blades I have NEVER seen a Tenryu blade "waffle" or "chatter" causing an ugly gouge in my otherwise nice saw cut. NEVER! With Forrest blades, after the first sharpening this "waffle" was a regular event, happening three or four times a day on a heavy table saw day.

From the time I put a Tenryu blade on my Jet table saw until I take it off for sharpening, (four to six months) the quality of cut DOES NOT DIMINISH! The only thing that changes is the force required to feed stock through the blade; it gets harder as the blade wears. When I feel I am working too hard feeding stock I change the blade. If I waited until the cut quality diminished, I would have to hire someone to help me push the stock through the blade. (Hal Taylor)
